I make oil paintings that move between abstraction and figuration. Each painting is an investigation embracing improvisation, intuition and ambiguity.

The paintings are formed through the act of pushing and pulling paint.  As I work with the paint I am synthesizing feelings. In this state I trust both myself and the paint I work with. The brush and tool strokes come quickly.  Often I become lost in the eagerness to discover.  For this process, oil paint is best.

I reference plants, flowers and the landscape because these shapes feel like a brushstroke. A piece of plant detritus becomes a record of movement that can be felt in the body. This creates sensations to be traced over with one’s mind’s eye.

Fleeting moments of emotion captured through brushstroke, color, and form.
