Cynthia Rojas: Some Wheres I've Been: 529 W 20th Street

Of her recent work, Cynthia states "Insistent, intuitive lines and colorful, eccentric shapes are created with a combination of acrylic paint and ink on wood panels. Layers of acrylic color are painted haphazardly until shapes begin to take form and the fine lines made with ink identify the pattern, giving the work the illusion of embroidery.

Architectural motifs and aerial landscape views influence my choice of form. The Manhattan skyline and dense chaos in my daily commute informs the composition and energy of the work.

Annual trips to Mexico have had a major influence on my palette and I mimic the bright colors found on the facades of stucco buildings and artisan crafts throughout the outdoor markets. I am mesmerized by the combination of bright pinks, oranges, yellows and cool blues and I strive to convey the same joy felt when surrounded by such vibrance."
