Art Up Close: Abstract Paintings By Maeve D’Arcy
Energetic, obsessive mark-making September 30, 2023 We love Maeve D’Arcy’s new paintings, which consist of obsessive mark-making, which is the hallmark of her work. The marks have become much more varied in this group of paintings, so there are big dots and little dots, and there are big Xs and little Xs. All of these marks create this energy that radiates from a distance, and then, as you get closer, you see where the energy comes from. The marks absolutely mark time, which is one of Maeve's raisons d'etre of mark-making, but they also reflect her stream of consciousness and bizarre thought process as she's creating work. She talks about how arbitrary her thought processes are and how she'll think about the most banal things and most important things, but they're all connected. Read more -
