It’s been really fun watching these paintings pull New Yorkers in off the street. The color is what grabs them, but once they take a closer look, they’re captivated by the energy they radiate. What they don’t know is that Peter Stephens approaches these entirely freehand. He starts by painting the backgrounds with acrylic paint and goes back in with an acrylic pen to create the line work. He doesn’t use a straight edge or anything. His goal is to create harmony between color and movement.
