I consider myself an abstract painter. I start very loosely with large brushstrokes in the middle, and then I go in and start breaking things up. I typically work outward and into the distance on each side. It can be dank in Seattle, so I tend to work a lot in warm hues.
This painting is essentially the view out the kitchen window looking at the backyard. There are lots of trees and plants that I see every day, but I've changed them. This painting is of something that I see, and altered until I felt it worked as a painting. The other painting doesn’t exist in the real world—it’s something that I made up. - Gillian Theobald
