This floral painting by Sydney Licht is a perfect example of how she plays with paint. Her surfaces are so rich, lush, and sensual. She uses this idea of the floral, which she looks at in her studio, as a jumping-off point to reorganize what she sees intuitively with paint. Her palette is wonderful, and I think her mixture of colors is brave. There’s always an element of surprise in how she intuitively sees something that’s normal.
