This is a wonderful painting by Maeve D’Arcy, a Queens-based artist. It’s very typical of her style in which she uses very concentrated, meditative, and repetitive mark-making.
The imagery consists of hundreds of thousands of marks all over the canvas in tiny increments, leading to a meditative, quiet practice in which the imagery pops out of the process - it’s not necessarily thought out of in advance. The imagery is a bit eccentric and landscape-like, and the energy of the mark-making gives it its edge.
