Art Up Close: Watercolor Painting by Katie DeGroot

This is a wonderful piece by Katie DeGroot, who is a masterful watercolor painter. It’s amazing how she captures the details and also heightens the images in her work.

Katie is a nature lover from upstate New York who looks at the individuality of trees and how each tree has to fight its way through the undergrowth, deal with the sun, and try and find its way in the world. As it does, the trees accumulate moss, fungus, and the life around it.  Katie depicts this and heightens it, almost to anthropomorphize the branches as individuals all dressed up in their finery.
