This is an oil painting by Steven Baris from a series called Jump Cut. Steven’s work is in reaction to his awareness of the corporatization of architecture that he sees all the time.
He is aware of these anonymous, unimaginative spaces that we go through, like airports and distribution centers. Steven paints in reaction to that, creating his own spaces with color and line. His spaces are much more ambiguous and reflect the ambiguity of corporate spaces where you don’t know where you are. In this painting, you surely don’t know where you are.
Steven creates very subtle layers of color combined with this very strong structure that creates great ambiguity and uncertainty of how the space lays on the picture. His use of color is just gorgeous, and the spaces are quite interesting.
