“The Artist’s Shelf” is an exhibition of 13 new oil paintings by Stanley Bielen that explore his ongoing ceramic and floral still-life works.
The artist’s hand is deeply visible through deft and exacting precision with his brush and palette knife. Each mark of paint is purposeful, revealing Bielen’s economic, but lustrous approach to creating light and depth within each work.
Bielen doesn’t attempt to capture his subjects in a precise photorealistic manner. Instead, he approaches these classic objects with abstracted, loose strokes. By having an often singular and centered subject, Bielen focuses the viewer deeply into the piece, creating an intimate and reflective space.
