This is a wonderful show of new work by Deborah Dancy, an abstract painter from Connecticut. Her paintings are a combination of beauty and tension.
Deborah works in fragments and feels like a fragment allows more space to develop a thought. There’s an ambiguity to her work and spaces, and her palette is very distinctive. She works in these beautiful, flat areas that are disrupted by her urgent mark-making, almost making divisions.
This show is called “A Glitch in the Membrane,” and you get the sense that things are splitting. Some of the paintings feel almost geological like they’re split volcanic eruptions of energy combined with a beautiful clear space.
